Ronald Frank Zander

Ronald Frank Zander May 29th, 1938 - August 8th, 2021 Ronald (Ron) Zander was born in Detroit, Michigan and passed away peacefully at home in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 83. He grew up playing baseball and after graduating high school had the opportunity to play for the Baltimore Orioles Farm Team. In 1958, Ron met his wife, Charlotte (Char), and they were married two years later. He worked for General Motors for his entire career of 42 years. On retirement Ron and Char moved to Summerlin, Nevada where they have lived together for 21 years with many long-time friends. Ron loved many things but mostly he loved taking pictures. He always had a camera around his neck or in his hand. He would drive along train tracks to find the best spot to get the best photo as it went by. He would sit by the airport and watch planes take off for hours videoing and taking pictures. He was our family photographer. Thankfully so, we now have an abundance of memories to look back on. Ron also loved all sports. He loved playing hockey in his younger days. He played golf several times a week as well as multiple bowling leagues throughout retirement. If he wasn't playing, he was watching sports on tv. He even managed to win a couple of 300 games and a 299 during his bowling days. Ron also loved to travel. He loved driving anywhere for any reason even if just for breakfast or to buy a lottery ticket. Together, Ron and Char traveled many miles across many states to see family in Michigan and Florida and new cities along the way. They had several campers and eventually an RV that they would stop at random campgrounds to stay for a night or two. He always wanted to go... he would say, "Come on Char, let's go for a ride"! Even up until the end he was asking to go, he wanted to get to the Apple store. Char will surely be getting a new iPhone this fall as his last request! Ron was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; his mother, Helen; and his brother, Raymond. He is survived, and will be forever missed, by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte, his three children Melinda (Tom) Morrow, Michelle Zander and Michael (Lisa) Zander. As well as his grandchildren Zoey, Luke (Melinda), Jonathan, Elizabeth, Sidney and Ian (Michael). A private celebration of Ron's life will take place in Summerlin, Nevada, at a later date.
