Mary Claire Miller

Mary (Claire) Miller, age 90, died of natural causes on April 17, 2021, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by her three children, Ron Miller, Judy Jenkins, and Jacqueline Simmons; her daughter-in-law, Hanaan Miller, and son-in-law Bob Simmons; her grandchildren Lailah Miller, Sarah Miller, Veronica Miller, William Miller, Andrew Miller, Laura Jaquelyn Miller-Doria, Thomas (Jeremy) Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins; grand-daughter-in-law Stephanie Jenkins; her grand-son-in-law James Doria and great-grandchildren Ezekiel Doria, Lexington Doria, and Magnolia Doria. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Ronald Miller, of Nova Scotia, Canada. Meeting after World War II, they married on November 11, 1953, and after a 48-year loving relationship, they were parted upon his death on December 7, 2001. Claire was born on January 22, 1931, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to parents Hector Hugh MacArthur and Gertrude May Reed-MacArthur. She graduated from St. Paul's Academy High School where she made life-long friends. While volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross, she met her future husband, married, and moved to the Town of Mount Royal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In 1965, Claire moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, due to her husband's position with the Canadian Government. She deeply enjoyed being overseas and traveling throughout the Asian and Indonesian regions. At the end of their international assignment, Claire returned to Canada and settled in Rosemere, a southwest suburban city of Montreal. She was an active member of the Rosemere Curling Club, where she, her husband, and three children enjoyed curling, swimming, and being part of the Rosemere community. In 1971, they departed Canada and moved to the United States following her husband's employment at Lincoln Laboratory, in Lexington Massachusetts. They moved to Nashua, New Hampshire, which provided a great family environment, and a reasonable commute to Lexington Massachusetts. Claire spent many tireless hours raising her three children, returning to work after her youngest child entered High School. Real Estate afforded her a flexible career and schedule, and where a bright and energetic woman could excel and eventually become a Broker. Her quick-wit and genial attitude made family dinners entertaining while frustrating her husband in her answering the Jeopardy questions first. Claire retired and moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico with her husband, and then to Deming, New Mexico where she enjoyed Green Chilies and frequent travels to Palomas, Mexico for shopping, music, and food. Claire loved dachshunds and throughout her life had several. After the passing of her husband, Claire received a companion dachshund called Charlie. They were inseparable and after a couple of years, they both moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be with her two daughters. Claire and Charlie quickly built a community of friends, retirees, in North Las Vegas where she often engaged in Bingo, a favorite activity of hers. She was eternally optimistic, which saw her through many difficult times including the passing of her husband, many of her close friends, and her puppy, Charlie, as well as her medical issues, including cancer, COPD, and eventually hospice care. Her family and friends will always remember her as an engaging, strong-willed, and personable spirit with a big heart, sharing her time, money, and talent. As per her request, Claire will be cremated and buried in Deming New Mexico, with her dachshund Charlie, next to her husband. The family would like to thank all those who supported her when she could not support herself.
