Beatrice Lyons Smith

Beatrice Anne Lyons Smith "Bea", was born September 11, 1938 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the union of Ira Otto Lyons and Lellar Flateau Lyons. Beatrice graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1957, she married Fred Smith Jr. (deceased), in Baton Rouge. They relocated to San Francisco, California. To that union, were born LaDonna K. Smith-Davis, Stephen D. Smith and Kevin B. Smith. Beatrice was an active member of All Hallows Roman Catholic Church in San Francisco. She served as a church organist for several years and was a member of the Young Ladies Institute, Women's Organization. She also attended St. Paul of the Shipwreck Catholic Church in San Francisco. Upon relocating to Las Vegas, she became a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. Beatrice, was employed by the City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Health for 9 years. She joined the San Francisco Sheriff's Department in 1973. During her career she experienced many milestones, one being the first female Deputy assigned to The Internal Affairs Unit. She promoted through the ranks and retired at the rank of Lieutenant in the year 2000. Lieutenant Smith served a total of 27 years with the Sheriff's Department and dedicated 36 years to the City and County of San Francisco. After retirement, Beatrice, along with her mother Lellar and son, Kevin, moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to join her brother, Victor and sister Judey and their families. Beatrice wanted her mother to be with the family during her later years. Beatrice was blessed with 6 grandchildren, from (LaDonna); D'Ante, (deceased), Charday and Tandy, from (Stephen, Sr.); Stephanie and Stephen, Jr. from (Kevin); Brian. Blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, LaDonna, Stephen and Kevin; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sister Judey Lyons Marshall. Numerous nieces and nephews and a large number of relatives. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents Lellar and Ira (Hap) Lyons, brother Victor Flateau Lyons. Beatrice enjoyed shopping, attending stage plays, musicals, movies and playing the slot machines at casinos. She traveled to Alaska, Australia, Bahamas, Greece, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and traveled throughout the United States. She loved attending gatherings with family and friends. Beatrice passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at her home surrounded by her children. She will be greatly missed by her family, many relatives, numerous friends and co-workers.
