TOP CASINO EXECUTIVE PASSES Thomas L. Powell, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on July 22, 2017. Tom, 77, joined our heavenly Father and took his final journey from the comforts of home with his wife and children by his side. Tom was born October 4, 1939 in Laskar, NC to John and Janie Powell. Tom worked in the casino industry for 30 years in upper management where he met his wife Carolyn. After retirement together they went on to open their own mortgage company Countryside Home Loans. A legion in his time, he will be remembered as the "ruff tuff" man and the boss that everyone wanted to work for. Tom's favorite hobby of all time was building and flying RC Model Control airplanes. As a past president of Prop Nuts RC Model Control Airplane Club, you could find him most of the time on the flying field with his buddies or with his son Eric competing in the Southwest Region at every IMAC contest. Although Tom had many hobbies, we can't forget his service in the United States Air Force where the sky was never the limit. A man that loved his country, he was a strong supporter of our 2nd Amendment Rights and an avid gun collector. If Tom wasn't at a gun show you could find him most weekends at the shooting range with his buddies or wife and kids. Spending quality time with Brother Jerry working on Street Cars and Muscle Cars was an all time favorite. Tom still had time for his dogs who were very near and dear to him. He loved playing ball with TaTa, Max, and Tessie the Dobermans; while Cindy, the Cocker Spaniel; laid next to him when watching Fox News. A longtime member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Tom was a man of faith and believed in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. He will be missed by everyone. "Rest easy Tom. You are forever in our hearts." Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John & Janie; son, David Keith; brother, James Mercer. Tom is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Robin, Dawn, and Jamie; sons, Michael and Eric. The oldest of 4 brothers, Tom is survived by brother, Wayne Powell of Mississippi; brother, Gerald Powell of Las Vegas; brother, Leo Mercer of Las Vegas. Tom is known as Grandpa Tom to several grandchildren and great grand children. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Affordable Cremation & Burial Services, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89102 Visitation will take place July 31, 2017 from 3-7 pm Funeral will take place at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 3137 S. Sandhill Rd Las Vegas, NV 89121 on August 1, 2017 at 11:00 am Burial will follow at Bunker Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Rd Las Vegas, NV 89129 All are invited to the Reception following the burial at the Sunshine & Tailwinds Café on the 2nd floor of the Main Terminal N.
