Teresa Jordan

Dr. Teresa Clark Jordan, Professor Emerita of Henderson, NV passed away from cancer on June 3, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 19, 1946 to parents Dennis and Henrietta (Penny) Clark. Teresa completed her undergraduate degree in speech and language pathology at Miami University in Oxford, OH. She pursued her career as a speech pathologist and special education administrator in Lorain, OH and Phoenix, AZ. During that time, she completed her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Arizona State University. In 1990 Teresa began her career in higher education as Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership, College of Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During her 21-year career at UNLV, she served as the Interim Dean of the College of Education, Associate Dean of the College of Education, and Chairperson of the Department of Educational Leadership. Teresa contributed her expertise through professional organizations, publications, and as a consultant in school finance and educational policy for the states of Nevada and New Mexico. She devoted her career to mentoring and nurturing numerous masters and doctoral students. Teresa's ideals will be carried forward through these students and her colleagues. Teresa's experiences in the Southwest strongly influenced her artistic tastes and spiritual sensitivity. Family, friendship, and travel served as focal points throughout her life. Teresa lived like there was no tomorrow. An example of that is when she was presented with the opportunity to sail the Caribbean for a year with a friend. When invited, she quit her job, sold her house and car and literally sailed off into the sunset! Teresa and her husband Forbis loved to travel and to cruise, often with friends and family. Their honeymoon was a train trip across Canada and their favorite place to visit was Maui. Teresa is survived by her sister, Lynn Clark Engleman (Bob) of Canton, OH; stepbrothers Michael (Liz) Tayse of Tipp City, OH, Mitchell (Cindy) Tayse of Columbus OH, and stepsister Maureen Tayse of New Carlisle, OH. She is survived by four stepchildren, Douglas (Tricia) Lyons, Keegan (Michelle) Lyons, Kenneth Jordan, John Mark Jordan and four grandchildren; Briana, Alexis, Alex and Gabriel Lyons. She is also survived by nieces and one nephew; Rachel Tayse, Sarah Tayse, Megan Tayse, Heather Tayse, Abigail Tayse Miller, Naomi Tayse, John Caleb Tayse and great niece Lillian Tayse-Baillieul. Also surviving is her beloved black lab, Jordan who brought her much love and comfort during her illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, K. Forbis Jordan, her father Dennis Clark, and her mother and stepfather, Henrietta (Penny) and Donald Tayse. Her dear friends and family comforted her through her extended illness and passing. Special acknowledgement includes her friend and caregiver Karen Gordon and Nathan Adelson Hospice.
