Ronald Lawrence Brady

Ronald Lawrence Brady, aged 91, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27th, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife and children as he returned to the loving arms of God. Ron was born on October 1st, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, to John R. and Elizabeth C. (O'Brien) Brady. He grew up on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, doing what he loved most: attending Dodger games with his brothers Richard and Robert, and playing stickball in the street with his friends Ron Browne and Lenny Levine. He attended Midwood High School and graduated from Brooklyn College on June 13th, 1954, with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Romance languages. Having also completed the ROTC program, he was commissioned and went on active duty as an Air Force 2nd Lieutenant on November 29th, 1956. He met the love of his life, MaryAnn Grady, an Air Force 2nd Lieutenant and Registered Nurse, on June 5th, 1959. They were married on January 9th, 1960, in the chapel at Olmsted AFB, PA. Ron's 22-year Air Force career took him across the southern states from Florida to California, as well as on overseas tours to the Philippines, Vietnam, and Japan, earning numerous medals and commendations along the way. His last assignment was at Nellis AFB, NV, where he retired on November 30th, 1976, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Ron earned his teaching certificate from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and began teaching in the Clark County School District in 1978. He spent his entire 16-year career at Helen C. Cannon Middle School teaching U.S. History and Geography. He retired from teaching on August 12th, 1994. Fully embracing retirement, Ron participated in his faith community and visited nursing homes every week for years. He was a fan of the Dodgers and Notre Dame football, and he enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour novels and watching old Westerns. A devoted father and grandfather, "Granddad" was a cherished presence at weddings, baptisms, graduations, birthday parties, sporting events, and performances. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, MaryAnn; children, Mark (Joyce) Brady, Karen (Greg) McKinley, and Carolyn Sue (TJ) Matthews; and seven grandchildren: Janelle, Jeremy, Conor, Julia, Veronica, Katie and Lillian. He is also survived by in-laws Ellen Grady Venditti, Dennis and Dian Grady, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were beloved by him. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. The funeral Mass for Ron will be celebrated at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with a private interment to follow at Boulder City Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
