Phillip Murray Kellogg

Phillip Murray Kellogg, lovingly known to many as “Uncle Phil,” passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on January 16, 1948, in Traverse City, Michigan, to Murray and Julia (Sanders) Kellogg, Phil lived a life defined by devotion to family, hard work, friendship, and generosity. Phil was raised in Michigan and graduated from Lincoln High School in Willis. He later settled in Ypsilanti, where he raised his family and built a life grounded in strong values, dedication, and perseverance. A highly skilled tradesman, Phil achieved the distinguished title of Star Fitter — one of his proudest professional accomplishments — and owned and operated Philco Fire Protection for 18 years. His work ethic, leadership, and craftsmanship earned him deep respect throughout his career and lasting friendships within the trade. In 2000, Phil moved to Las Vegas to begin a new chapter while continuing the career he took great pride in. As a young man, Phil proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for five months before being honorably medically discharged. Although his time in uniform was brief, his respect for and dedication to the armed forces remained a lifelong commitment. He continued serving veterans and military communities through volunteerism and active involvement, most notably with the Marine Riders. As a Marine Rider–Retired, he held the roles of Sergeant-at-Arms and Member-at-Large, organizing rides, cookouts, gatherings, and charity events while building many lasting friendships along the way. Phil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Roselynne (Malenfant) Kellogg; his three daughters, Kristen (Andrew) Shimko, Andrea (Michael) Torres, and Katy (William) Burke; and his son, Shawn (Michelle) Kellogg. He was a proud and loving Papa to ten cherished grandchildren: Sarah, Madeline, and Carson Shimko; Samuel, Gabriel, and Taylor Torres; Link, Ivy, and Grayson Burke; and Tyler Royer. He also leaves behind his sister, Dixie Bennett; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his beloved cats, Tammy and Tony, who were constant companions. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Randy Kellogg; his sister, Linda Sayami; his nephew, Keith Kellogg; and his beloved friend, “Pappy.” Service and community involvement were central to Phil’s life. He was a proud member of Union Local 704 for more than 50 years and participated in numerous organizations, including the Marine Riders, the Loyal Order of Moose in Ypsilanti and Las Vegas, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ypsilanti, and the American Legion in Ypsilanti and Las Vegas. Phil was passionate about helping others and supported causes such as Veterans of America, Toys for Tots, and various veteran assistance programs. Phil had a gift for bringing people together and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He loved hosting pig roasts, cooking pizzas in his backyard oven, playing cards — especially euchre — and cheering on University of Michigan football. He had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, owning many Harleys over the years and embarking on cross-country rides that took him through 48 states and more than 300,000 miles on the open road — many of those miles shared with his dear friend Pappy. Known for his warmth, humor, and willingness to help anyone in need, Phil left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Phil will be remembered for his strong character, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the memories shared by those who loved him.
