Lawrence Carlton Odell 1960-2017 Lawrence "Larry" Carlton Odell passed on at 56 years old on October 22, 2017 at 6:20am in his lifelong residence Henderson, Nevada. Larry was born and raised in Henderson, Nevada by his parents James Maurice Odell and Wanda Henderson. He is an alumni of Basic High School and found a niche for wrestling becoming a State Champion. Out of college Larry started working as a pest control technician, then went on to open his own Pest Control Business. Vegas Valley Pest Control, serving many across the entire Las Vegas and Henderson Valley. Everyone loved Larry and Larry loved everyone. You couldn't help, but love Larry. He maintained his huge heart even through the many adversities he encountered throughout his life. Larry left a legacy of love, kindness, humility, sensitivity, and strength. Most importantly Larry was a wonderful Father. He loved his children with all his heart and would do anything for them. He is survived by his Daughters Jessika Nicole and Cherrial Ann, and Sons Christopher Lawrence and Nicholas Carlton, and brother James Odell and his only Grandchild Olive Anne Banks. Larry was an outdoors man, he loved taking in the beauty of nature. He also enjoyed outdoor activities including involving his children in numerous sports including golf, tennis, soccer, dance, and baseball. He instilled a work ethic and strength in his children through taking the time to coach them in numerous sports. He would spend countless hours on any field or court for his children. He wanted them to achieve their dreams with grit, humility, dedication, and kindness. Larry's children all wrote a paragraph in his memory. "My Dad loved all of us so very much. I cannot express how grateful I am for the countless hours he spent helping me accomplish my goals and in the process shaping me into a good human being. He wholeheartedly flung himself into anything I wanted to do whether it be tennis, golf, soccer, singing, and dancing. Every memory with my Dad holds great meaning in my life. I remember singing my lungs out to Willie Nelson, running around on the court for hours every day, getting hot chocolate every Saturday morning at the golf course, etc... My Dad always made sure I knew I was loved and I was capable of anything. I am so grateful to have had such a loving father, he has shaped me into the person I am and am becoming. He is not gone, his spirit of love is soaring free and he will always be with me. I will continue to live on his legacy through making right choices in my life and spreading the love that he exemplified through his kind heart. My Dad always used to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to me... Daddy I love you and you are now one with the Sunshine." -Cherrial Ann Odell Our father was a Compassionate, and loving man. Growing up my dad would often bring meals, clothes and offer random side jobs to the homeless. He would literally take the shirt off his back, if you were in need. As a child, I didn't quite understand what he was doing or what kind of lesson he was teaching me. As I grew up I realized the meaning of his lessons. He instilled kindness and humbled me. He taught me to be strong, and keep pushing with a smile on my face and that it was okay to cry in the process as long as I got back up. He taught me to be kind, He taught me to love, and to love hard! He taught me so many valuable life lessons and helped me more than he thought he did. Behind every big decision I made his presence was always with me, and I find peace in knowing that he will always be with me. My comfort in his passing is now knowing that he found his peace and can rest happy. If it was teaching me to swing a golf club or knowing I was bored being a kid on a golf course to teach me how to juggle golf balls with that huge smile on his face and that goofy contagious laughter he had. To know that he gave all his children this huge loving heart to carry on is a blessing at the least. With his sudden death he has taught me his final lesson, life is too short for regrets and it's never too late to change or do what I know I'm capable of achieving in this life with an open heart and compassion for all people. My living amends to my Father is to never, never give up and always do my best every day, to put my heart into everything I do no matter how big or small just like you Dad. I love you." Your son, Christopher Lawrence Odell Christopher wanted to share this quote in honor of his Father's beautiful life and spirit: "Lord, make me a channel of thy peace, that where there is hatred, I may bring love; that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness; that where there is discord, I may bring harmony; that where there is error, I may bring truth; that where there is doubt, I may bring faith; that where there is despair, I may bring hope; that where there are shadows, I may bring light; that where there is sadness, I may bring joy. Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted; to understand, than to be understood; to love, than to be loved. For it is by self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life." My father was a very passionate man and loved like there was no tomorrow. When I went through one of the worse tragedies of my life losing my leg, he showed his love by bringing me in with open arms and helping me find my way through that difficult time in my life. It reminded me when I was a young child and he took my siblings and I to learn how to snowboard. I was going down a mountain an got separated from my family and ended up off the trail. My dad as passionate as he was about his children demanded that the snow patrol close the slops until I was found. He had the whole mountain looking for me and when he found me he was crying harder then I was. My dad wasn't the perfect man, he would always say "do what I say not as I do" but if I can take anything that he did in life with me, it would be the love and compassion that he had for others. I love you and will always miss you love your son, Nick Odell God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world As it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His Will; So that I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him Forever and ever in the next. Amen. Larry Odell left a legacy of love, kindness, humility, sensitivity, and strength. He maintained his huge heart, even through the many adversities he encountered throughout his life. We will be celebrating his legacy on Friday, October 27th at 3pm. His Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at O'Callaghan Park (his favorite) 601 Skyline Rd. Henderson, NV 89002.
