Larry David May

Larry David May, age 81, of North Las Vegas, NV, passed away from this life on June 11, 2026 to go be with his Heavenly Father. Born on March 9, 1945 in Morristown, TN, he was the son of the late Henry and Susan May and grew up in Bean Station, TN. After graduating from Rutledge High School, Larry answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963. Throughout his distinguished military career, he served with honor as a Staff Judge Advocate. He rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Larry earned numerous Meritorious Service Medals and commendations during his years of service. He retired from active duty in 1988 after 24 years of faithful service, but he carried the Air Force core values of "Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do" throughout his entire life. As dedicated as he was to serving his country, his greatest joy was his family. In 1965, Larry met Charla while stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base, CA and turned down a Congressional appointment to the Air Force Academy in order to get married to the love of his life. Larry and Charla were married on December 28, 1966, and in 1968, they had their first child, LaDonna, born in Morristown, TN. In 1970, they welcomed their second child, Michael in Goldsboro, NC; and in 1978 they welcomed their third child, Marc in Okinawa, Japan. Larry was a fighter who cheated death many times because he believed he had so much to live for, the most prominent of which was the love and responsibility he felt toward his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 59 ½ years and loved being a dad, granddad and great-granddad. He taught his children how to work hard while still enjoying life, and to use their voices to fight for what they believe is important. Larry was, at his very core, a story-teller. He was happiest while telling stories about his military service, his baseball coaching adventures, the Atlanta Braves, or his family memories and could keep your attention for hours with his colorful commentary. At age 55, Larry made the decision to become a follower of Jesus and spent many years serving in various ways in his church family at Valley Christian in Las Vegas. He served on the church’s Board of Directors, as a Bible Talk Leader, and helped many members with their taxes and wills. In his later years, as his earthly body began to fade, 1 Thessalonians 5:6-11 became a favorite scripture in hope of the life after this one: 6 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. 7 Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. 8 But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. 9 For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. 10 Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. 11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Charla; his 3 children: LaDonna, Michael, and Marc; his 7 grandchildren: Bryan, Sean, Erik, Hailey, Kirstyn, Ethan and Avery; his 7 great-grandchildren: Jordan, Liam, Aaron, Victoria, August, Benjamin and Curran; and his 3 brothers, Donnie, Ronnie and Kenny. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Susan. Larry will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but we take heart that he is finally relieved of the pain of his final days, and we rejoice that he has heard the words we all long hear: "Well done good and faithful servant!”
