James Wayne Westbrook

James Wayne Westbrook, known as Wayne, more lovingly known asDad, Grandpa, and Papa, age 63 was welcomed into heaven onSeptember 2, 2024. Wayne was reunited with his wife and soulmateDonna (Pulley) Westbrook, first born daughter Carrie (Westbrook)Mezo, Son in law Michael Mezo, brother Danny Westbrook,Grandparents Martin and Pauline Courneya, Stepdad Max Crawford,Warren Sabo and his Dad Carlton Wanye Westbrook.Wayne was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana where he met hisfuture wife Donna (Pulley) Westbrook at the age of 10. They grew upin a small town where they formed an unbreakable bond that wouldlast a lifetime. Wayne and Donna had their first child Carrie(deceased) on October 18, 1977. They were married on June 7, 1980.They welcomed daughters Carolyn on October 8, 1981 and Cathy onOctober 20, 1984.Wayne spent his life working hard to be the best dad, husband, son,brother, uncle and grandpa he could be. His life revolved around hisfamily. Despite working to support his family he always found time togo to his daughters softball games. He was always there to supporthis girls. He taught them to be strong, independent, and a littlestubborn too. He instilled in his children a strong sense of family andthe importance of having a good work ethic. He worked many jobs tosupport his family. After moving his family to Las Vegas, NV in 1994,he began his career with Boyd gaming. He started out dealing crapsand blackjack and worked his way up to shift supervisor. He retiredfrom Boyd Gaming after 26 years of service.A person's life is best measured by the lives of those they've touched.Those that knew our dad knew that he was caring, strong,hardworking, and he loved his family. He was always there. Hetaught us how to ride a bike, throw a ball, and how to stand up forourselves. He was there to hold our hand, wipe our tears, fix ourskinned knees and broken hearts.Wayne loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed family gamenight, Monday & Tuesday family dinners, watching game shows, andgoing to play bingo with our mom. He also loved woodworking in thegarage. He made many beautiful things. Wayne was a proud andloving grandpa. He loved spending time with his grandkids. Heenjoyed swimming with them in the summers and having the kidssneak to wrap Christmas gifts for grandma. He loved being agrandpa.His grandkids will always remember him with fond memories of nightswimming and sleepovers. Alana will always cherish her time livingwith grandpa, watching cooking shows, and talking about differentsorts of foods and ingredients they used. Grandpa could talk for hoursabout the foods he has tried and places he tried them. Allison willalways remember sleepovers at grandpas and watching AmericanNinja Warrior. Nicholas will remember grandpa for his wisdom andhow much knowledge he had on many subjects. Grandpa was hisinspiration and he will continue to carry grandpa's wisdom with him.Alexie's favorite memory of Grandpa is spending the summer with himswimming in his big pool.To my loving son, "You were my first born, so I loved you for a longtime, but not long enough. I'm going to miss your daily call. When welaughed and talked about everything and nothing. And always endedin I love you. I was so proud of you and will always love and miss you.You always knew you were my favorite. But, you also knew I told allmy boys that. Maybe the pain will get easier, but the loneliness willalways be there." Love, Mom.To our loving brother, You've been our older brother for over fiftyyears, which wasn't nearly long enough. You'll be our older brother inour hearts forever. We'll always love and now miss you as well. Wewill miss the phone calls and all the birthday wishes and the missedwishes too. Happy late birthday. Wayne isalso survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many otherfamily members. Our dad will be truly missed by many.Although he has left us here on Earth, he will continue to live on in ourhearts and memories. Our dad will forever be a part of us and willalways be with us. He will always be in the smell of fresh sawdust andthe chlorine smell from the first swim of the summer. He will bethought of by the taste of every late night frosty and fries, which heloved. He will be remembered during every Costco trip and with everysoup, salad, and breadstick lunch. He will be with us for familydinners and game nights. He will be thought of in every phone call tograndma, which he rarely missed. His memory will live on in everycooking show that we watch and every game show that we play alongwith.Our dad's strength, love, wisdom, guidance, and even hisstubbornness will forever be a part of us. We will always love and misshim. He will never stop taking care of us, because now he will be ourGuardian Angel and will continue to watch over us from heaven. Welove you dad and always will.
