Jack Lee Griffis

On Monday, October 5, 2020, Jack L. Griffis, loving husband and father of six children, passed away at the age of 88. Jack was born on July 1, 1932 in Rossville, IN to James and Lucille (Morin) Griffis. He graduated from Marmion Academy in Aurora, IL in 1951. He went onto VMI (Virginia Military Institute) and subsequently served four years in the United States Air force during the Korean War. He finished his degree at St. Joseph's College, earning a B.S./Business Administration degree and became a successful business owner. In 1969 he moved his family to Alaska where he spent 8 years running his own aviation business. He was an expert Alaskan Bush pilot and navigated through rough terrain and severe weather conditions in Alaska's "Bush". He was also a member of the exclusive Quiet Birdmen Pilot's Club. Making his way to California in 1977, he became a commercial real estate broker. In 1997, he relocated once again to Nevada and continued his commercial real estate brokerage until just a few weeks prior to his death. Jack was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church and lived his faith. He loved life and enjoyed flying, racing cars, scuba diving, and making people laugh with his endless jokes. As a father, he naturally fit the role and led with passion and love. His relationships with each of his children were unique and revered by his family and friends. He said on several occasions how lucky he felt to have the love of his life, Arlyne, and his children, whom he referred to as his "6 best friends". Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arlyne (Cline) Griffis, five of his children James (Lisa), Jackie (Dan), Joe, Jason (Alma), and Jeffrey, his nine grandchildren Madison, Jack, Michael, Brianna, Nathan, Mariah, Josiah, Nayeli and Eli. He is also survived by two of his sisters, Pat Barce and Sherry Griffis as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members Herb, Taunie, Baily, Jack, and Andrew. He is preceded in Heaven by his parents, his daughter Julie Griffis, and two of his sisters, Janet Murphy and Joanne Diedam.
