Hester Mae Johnson

Hester Johnson was a deeply loved wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She departed this life on May 12, 2026, at the age of 75. Hester was born on December 21, 1950, in Eudora, Arkansas, to Dudley Miles Sr. and Annie Miles. Later in life, her family relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she built a life rooted in love, family, and service to others. Hester graduated from Eudora High School in 1969 and later attended Kennedy King College in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout her career, she participated in various training programs to continuously strengthen her skills and perform her work with excellence. She began her professional career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company and later worked for HSBC Financial. Hester ultimately retired from Opportunity Village, a disability services and support organization, where she was recognized multiple times as Employee of the Month for her compassion, dedication, and strong desire to help others. Hester was married to Jack S. Johnson, a career Navy serviceman, who preceded her in death. During their early years together, she paused her career to travel the world alongside Jack as he fulfilled his military service commitment, creating treasured memories and experiences along the way. Hester was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Annie Miles; father, Dudley Miles Sr.; brother, Dudley Miles Jr.; sister, Ameydell Conley; husband, Jack S. Johnson; and cherished nieces, Lisa Miles and Felecia Broussard. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving sister, Iredell Washington; brothers, Curry Miles and Linwood Miles; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Nathan Parker, John Conley, Gwen Miles, Charlotte Miles, Cedric Miles, Michelle Miles-Bolden, Belinda Miles-Johnson, Monica Miles-Lott, Jeremy White, Dudley Fuller, and Nakil Fuller. She also leaves behind many great-nieces, great-nephews, lifelong friends, coworkers, and loved ones who will deeply miss her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit. Hester was known for her laughter, loving heart, and the genuine joy she brought to family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love and memories she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
