Antonio Capobianco

On Sunday, December 6, 2020, Antonio Capobianco, loving husband, father, and brother passed away at the age of 76. Tony was born on September 7, 1944 in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Italy. He immigrated to the United States at the young age of 16 with his parents, studying and working until he was drafted into the US Army at 21 years of age. He completed an exceptional and distinguished career in the US Army and after 20 years of dedicated service, he retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was very committed to his service in the US Army starting in the distinguished position of providing security for General Alexander Haig often escorting him into Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Furthermore, he would accompany General Haig along with President Richard Nixon around the Asian theater to include the iconic visit of President Nixon to China in 1972. He then had many distinguished assignments primarily in Europe to include Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers, Europe, while General Haig was the Supreme Allied Commander Europe Nuremberg , Hanau, Bamberg, and Neu Ulm in Germany, Camp Darby in Italy and his one United States tour at Oakland Army Base where he met his wife. Known for his keen business sense, upon his retirement from the US Army, Tony was sought after by food businesses becoming Vice President of Diversified Global, Ltd and responsible for all European sales. Subsequently, he opened his own business in the Italian food and wine arena as well as working in cooperation with International companies that brought him to every corner of the world to include Israel, Greece, Russia, Germany, England, Romania, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Haiti, Afghanistan, and Africa. But he always came back to his beloved Italy where he enjoyed the company of friends and family, sharing stories, making new friends, creating new business ventures, and hosting fantastic meals where he shared his creative dishes and the stories of his travels. After retiring from this second career, Tony followed his wife to the US until she retired from her career and continued to host many visits from his friends around the world and showing them the wonders of the United States as well as always sharing a good Italian meal and a warm and loving environment. Tony had a businessman's mind, a heart of gold, and an extreme devotion to his family and friends. He loved to entertain family and friends with his endless humor, infectious smile, and delicious meals. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Alfredo Capobianco, and his mother, Maria Luisa Gallo. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda, his two daughters, Maria Luisa and Katia, and his sister, Donatina. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 10 am. His body will be sent to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
